Why war or why

Moving into this subject allows me to express both the admiration i have for those who have fought in past wars and those who are still tied up in the current.  In the era of the vietnam war there was less young people being all 'gun ho' about the war as compaired to later wars. If i was being forced to fight a war i didnt agree with or knew nothing of why would i want to risk my life for it? Even now there is still no clear answer to what our purpose was and did we fulfill our duty or task? All the young men and women who lost their futures, limps and lives and i still wonder if it was worth it. Our history does not compare in the history or so many other countries yet we have been involved in countless wars that were not ours to participate in.  Being that i have direct family members who have at some point and time participated in the afghanistan war i usually keep my thoughts and feelings to myself so that  i do not disrespect and one of them, but i have never agreed with the way our countries tactics. Im proud to be American but not as proud for the stamp of damage we have left on Vietnam.
